The Pink Spiders (Teenage Graffiti)
Released: 08/01/06 - 14 Tracks - (42:14) - (Geffen)
Standout Tracks: [None]
With Teenage Graffiti, The Pink Spiders have successfully distanced themselves from the parade that is original alternative music. Instead of joining such a parade, or even viewing it, the band has equated themselves with that loud, annoying truck that cleans up the horse poop.
Don’t take this metaphor as a joke though: The Pink Spiders are basically a little insect of a band that follows behind original bands and uses what worked in their own music. They steal every-thing from beats to melodies to solos. By the I had listened to the first few songs, I was tired of the band’s sound. Had this album been released a few years ago, maybe, just maybe, it would have been popular and seen as semi-original. But seemingly stolen riffs fill up Teenage Graffiti, and The Pink Spiders have shown to the music world that they cannot actually create anything good that is their own.
But not every song on this album fits the above formula of tired sounds – Teenage Graffiti is not without experimentation. Songs like “Adalae” and “Secret Song” focus on piano rather than guitar. But the results are just plain bad. “Adalae” attempts to mix guitar and piano, and ends up sounding like the band just used the two instruments without thinking about what it would sound like. “Secret Song” is a measly one minute, but still manages to be a complete waste of time. But I still give the band credit for at least trying to experiment. Next time, they should probably pay more attention to what the results of the experimentation sounds like.
All in all, this album, and this band for that matter, is total trash. You may think that their music isn’t that bad, but consider the context of the album: It takes the sound from bands from a few years ago, and really does not do anything other than copy these bands. Please don’t buy this album.

SCORE: 1.5
Joe's Botttom Line: This album is complete waste of time and money. Plus, I would hate to see anyone support this band by purchasing this album.
