Listen to "When the Creepers Creep in" while you read:
Named after the famous Kinks album “The Village Green Preservation Society”, The Village Green released their first full-length album
Feeling the Fall
. Without listening to the music and simply looking at the title and album cover, one might imagine this band to echo those from the 60’s. Seeing as though their obvious main influence is the Kinks, they took many would-be 60’s songs, and made them more indie. The Village Green has many influences besides the Kinks, two of which are The Beatles and modern rock group Blur. They incorporated The Beatles’ awesome rhythm, Blur’s catchy riffs, and even some of The Kinks’ dream-like speed all into one perfect set of songs that makes The Village Green album unique and catchy. I would classify this album as slow, with some incredible faster songs mixed in between.Previously the Village Green released two EPs, and a couple of songs from these EPs were put into their new album. Most of the band’s credit rightly goes to vocalist and guitarist J. Nicholas Allard, who wrote his songs in dedication to the band’s hometown of Portland, Oregon. Allard remembers his years back at home, and the lyrics make me feel as though I’m only listening to Allard describe Portland in great detail. His distinct voice sets The Village Green apart from other bands, and his above average soloing in songs such as “Bullet to the Head” and “Mossyrock” create songs that are impossible to not listen to all the way through. -Matt Carvell
SCORE: 7.5
Matt's Bottom Line:
This album is very good. If you don’t love mellow songs, then I just recommend you listen to the standout tracks.
SCORE: 6.5
Nicky:
Overall, a strong album. The more you hear it, the better this album sounds. The only downside is that the drumming seems a little repetitive.
SCORE: 7
Joe:
I enjoyed every minute of
Feeling the Fall
. The Village Green combined acoustic and electric to create a captivating 45 minutes of music.
